Barun Kr. Das, The Bengal News, Kolkata, India : Celebrating 50 years of the iconic 1975 classic Sholay, a special commemorative calendar titled “Sholay 50” was unveiled in a nostalgic and star-studded event. Directed by Ramesh Sippy and written by the legendary duo Salim–Javed, Sholay remains a milestone in Indian cinema, continuing to inspire generations five decades later.

The calendar has been conceptualised and published by The Dreamers Music PR Agency, presented by Seram Group. The highlight of the evening was a dramatic appearance by Bengali rock band Cactus’s celebrated duo Sidhu–Pata, who stepped into the roles of Jai and Veeru for the occasion.
Arriving on a sidecar motorcycle reminiscent of the film’s iconic scene, the duo performed the timeless friendship anthem Yeh Dosti, instantly transporting the audience back to the golden era of Indian cinema. The band, which has itself crossed three decades of musical journey, added a unique rock nostalgia to the tribute.
Speaking at the event, Sanjib Acharyya, Chairman of Seram Group, said, “Sholay continues to evoke a deep emotional connect among audiences even today. Seram Group has always believed in supporting meaningful culture and refined artistic initiatives.”
Sidhu and Pata expressed their joy at being associated with the celebration, stating, “Being imagined as Jai and Veeru for this special occasion is truly an honour and a moment of immense happiness for us.”
Sudipta Chand, the creative mind behind the calendar, shared insights into the concept: “Every year, The Dreamers presents a calendar based on a unique theme. This year, each page of Sholay 50 features rare and fascinating memorabilia from the film — including vintage newspaper advertisements, original tickets, record covers, behind-the-scenes moments, theatre lobby visuals from its release days, powder cases, matchboxes, posters, booklets, lobby cards, and much more. It is truly a collector’s edition.”
Fifty years on, Sholay is not merely a film — it is an enduring emotion etched into the cultural memory of India. The launch of Sholay 50 stands as a fitting tribute to a cinematic masterpiece that continues to define storytelling excellence.
