Barun Kr. Das, The Bengal News, Kolkata : A special cultural evening celebrating the spirit of Bengali New Year is set to take place on April 18, 2026, at Mahajati Sadan from 5 PM onwards. Organized by the Seram Thalassemia Prevention Federation, the event promises a rich blend of music, nostalgia, and cultural heritage, alongside the unveiling of a unique Bengali New Year calendar.
The newly published calendar carries a special theme dedicated to two legends of Bengali cinema—Uttam Kumar and Soumitra Chatterjee. Notably, this year marks the birth centenary of Uttam Kumar. The calendar features rare and memorable moments from the lives of these iconic actors, along with classic film posters that highlight their cinematic journey.
As part of the evening, a specially curated dance-musical presentation titled “Dui Purush” will be performed. Conceptualized and scripted by Sanjib Acharya, Secretary of the organization, the production explores the cinematic works, songs, stories, and personal relationship between the two stalwarts.
The event will also host a grand musical segment titled “Boishakher Boithoki”, celebrating the evolution of Bengali music – from traditional and classical forms to modern, film, folk, and band music. Renowned artists including Srikumar Chattopadhyay, Nachiketa Chakraborty, Siddhartha Sankar Ray (Sidhu), Pousali Banerjee, and Swakhar Basu will perform at the event. The musical session will be hosted by Debashis Basu, guiding the audience through a journey of Bengali music across eras.
Speaking about the initiative, Sanjib Acharya said, “The Bengali New Year is deeply connected with traditions like calendars and Bengali music, carrying a strong sense of nostalgia. Through this event, we aim to celebrate that cultural essence while also spreading awareness about thalassemia prevention. This is not just an entertainment program – it carries a social message.”
The event reflects a thoughtful blend of culture and cause, aiming to engage audiences while promoting awareness about thalassemia prevention.
