Barun Kr. Das, The Bengal News, Kolkata, 23rd January 2026 : The Banglanatak.com-initiated Surjahan 2026, a three-day World Peace Music Festival, commenced today at Golf Green Central Park. The festival will continue till January 25, celebrating folk and roots music from India and across the world.
Organised in association with the Golf Green Central Coordination Committee, Surjahan 2026 brings together traditional musicians, folk ensembles, and cultural practitioners to promote harmony, peace, and cultural dialogue through music. Eminent historian, former Member of Parliament, and public intellectual Sugata Bose was present at the inaugural programme, lending his support to the festival’s vision of cultural unity and global peace through folk traditions.

This year’s edition features performances by international bands including Folker Band (Hungary), Saučas (Latvia), Radiant Arcadia (Denmark), and Vigüela (Spain), alongside prominent Indian folk performers such as Sidi Goma from Gujarat, Bauls of Bengal, Folks of Bengal, and Debojyoti Mishra. In addition to evening concerts held daily from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, the festival also hosts interactive workshops from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm, offering audiences an opportunity to engage closely with artists and traditional musical forms.
Surjahan 2026 is open to all, with free entry, and aims to foster cross-cultural understanding by showcasing the shared human spirit reflected in folk music traditions worldwide.
